[Written for the Sentinel]

A Lively Stone

Canst turn thy gaze from angry looksAnd know and see man undefiledAs Love's own image, God's own child?Canst lift from deep depression's bedThe grieving heart, the aching head,So that the light of Truth and LoveShines forth undimmed through darkest night? And canst thou heal disease and sinAnd put all doubting thoughts to flight?Canst hear God's voice above the dinOf battle over self, and win? Then Truth is proved triumphant, true; And in that house not made with handsShalt thous be found a lively stone.
