[Written for the Sentinel]

A Lively Stone

Canst turn thy gaze from angry looks
And know and see man undefiled
As Love's own image, God's own child?
Canst lift from deep depression's bed
The grieving heart, the aching head,
So that the light of Truth and Love
Shines forth undimmed through darkest night?
And canst thou heal disease and sin
And put all doubting thoughts to flight?
Canst hear God's voice above the din
Of battle over self, and win?
Then Truth is proved triumphant, true;
And in that house not made with hands
Shalt thou be found a lively stone.
