[Written for the Sentinel]

Sunset and Dawn

THE sun sank down, and darkness fell
Upon the lonely world.
And yet, as earth in darkness lay,
We knew would come another day,
When dawn its wings unfurled!

Tired heart, however deep thy sun
May seem in night to sink,
Look up, not down; the stars on high
Shine ever through the darkened sky,
Give proof that light is ever nigh:
Thy sun shall rise again!

And God, who holdeth all in place,
No cloud of night can hide
From those who, steadfast, seek His face.
Yea, in the morning shall we hear
Those words of joy and liberty:
Fear not, I am with thee.
