In a recent issue of your paper there appeared an account of a sermon.
In an issue of recent date you reported a sermon by a Christian minister who went out of his way to make a disrespectful and discourteous reference to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
In an issue of recent date, a writer for one of your columns, after extracting some amusement from purported attempts to apply what he terms Pollyanna psychology to actual conditions, apparently confuses Christian Science with such practices by quoting from pages 401 and 402 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, as follows: "Until the advancing age admits the efficacy and supremacy of Mind, it is better for Christian Scientists to leave surgery and the adjustment of broken bones and dislocations to the fingers of a surgeon, while the mental healer confines himself chiefly to mental reconstruction and to the prevention of inflammation.
Our friend will agree that in obedience to his command the result of an understanding of the teachings of the Master should be seen, not only in the preaching of the gospel, but also in the healing of the sick and the casting out of devils.
In presenting the religious tenets of Christian Science in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures".
Will you allow me space to correct what seems to be a very strange misapprehension as to the meaning of the term "Christian Science"?

That God is "a very present help in trouble," and that Christian Science does heal when faithfully applied, I have positively proved; and I am indeed grateful for the loving care of our Father-Mother God.
