Weekly Herald
Our friend will agree that in obedience to his command the result of an understanding of the teachings of the Master should be seen, not only in the preaching of the gospel, but also in the healing of the sick and the casting out of devils (evils). In fact Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Now Christian Science, which includes a restatement of primitive Christianity, ena bles its followers to accomplish, in the degree that it is understood and lived, these works of redemption and healing. The evidence of this may be found to-day in almost any part of the world. Christian Science shows that it would be impossible to cast out, or destroy, the devils or evils, whether they be hatred, malice, envy, jealousy, dishonesty, and so forth, or rheumatism, or any other disease, if these conditions were actually real, God-created, or God-permitted. Christian Science teaches, in accordance with the Scriptures, that God, good, is the only cause and creator, and that He made all that was made, and that it was very good.
Our friend will agree that evil, including disease, is not good; therefore, not of God. Christian Science defines evil or devil in Jesus' words as a liar from the beginning, and the father of itself,—a deceiver. The false claim of evil to power and presence is met, and proved false, by the method advocated by Jesus,—that of knowing the truth which makes free. What is this truth? It must be the truth that God, good, is the All-in-all, the only power and presence. Our critic will be glad to know that Christian Scientists are joining in the fight which Paul fought against evil, and are having wonderful results, as witness the victories gained by them over all phases of evil.
