I have been a student of Christian Science for about seven...

I have been a student of Christian Science for about seven years, and have experienced and witnessed many healings through the application of this truth. An incident which I wish to describe stands out conspicuously in my thought. One day, while attempting to cross a crowded street, my seven-year-old son was run over by an automobile. He was carried into a doctor's office nearby before I heard anything of the accident. Upon reaching this office, a few minutes later, I learned that the doctor had said to one of the bystanders, "He is dead." One glance at the child showed me the necessity of getting away from that atmosphere of thought, in order to get hold of the truth. For a short time I stood declaring vigorously, "God is his life." Then I returned to my home and called for the help of a Christian Science practitioner, who, after assuring me that she would stand by me in the problem, told me to work earnestly with the "scientific statement of being," to be found on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, until my thought became clear, before returning to the child. This was a very difficult thing to do, for the mental picture received in that one glance at the child kept suggesting the most hopeless and terrible possibilities; but I refused to accept into my consciousness one of these suggestions, and continued this work audibly. In a few minutes some one came with the report that he had begun to breathe again, and presently they brought him home. The doctor, fearing that great suffering would result from internal injuries, felt that a hypodermic injection should be given; but the Christian Science practitioner assured me that this was not at all necessary, that the truth would prevent any suffering. My faith was unwavering, so I refused to have the hypodermic given. Needless to say, the truth did take care of the situation perfectly. There was no pain; nausea was overcome quickly; and the following afternoon the child came downstairs and ate dinner with the family. Only three treatments were necessary to restore him to his normal condition.

The doctor afterwards said to me: "The remarkable thing about this accident is that he did not simply have the breath knocked out of him, as is often the case. When they brought him in he was breathing, but soon after it stopped completely, and I said, 'He is gone.' Besides, both wheels went over his body, as shown by the marks; and yet there are no bones broken. It is very wonderful." The one who drove the car came the second day after to see the child, expecting to find him in a serious condition. When the little fellow met him at the door, he could scarcely believe it to be the same child, and exclaimed, "It was simply a miracle!" We know in Christian Science that it was "divinely natural" (Science and Health, p. 591); and we are not half so much surprised when these beautiful demonstrations are made as we should be if they were not made.

I am deeply grateful for this healing, as well as for the many others that have taken place in our home. I am grateful for all the avenues through which the blessings come to us in Christian Science,—for the Sunday school, the church services, the literature, the help of practitioners, and especially for class instruction. I know that I see more light and realize the truth more clearly at each meeting of our class association. I am grateful that Truth will not let go of us, if we are sincere; and I am striving to show by my daily life my deep appreciation to God, to Christ Jesus, and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
