Before taking up the study of Christian Science I did...
Before taking up the study of Christian Science I did not have any desire to live, my whole consciousness seeming to be in a constant state of depression, and life, which I thought of then as being material, had no attractions for me; but after receiving just a slight understanding of Life as Spirit, the only reality, I wanted to live. I had a hard struggle, and error seemed to contest every step of my progress; but I clung to the words of Jesus, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you;" also to the words from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 326) by Mary Baker Eddy, "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way;" and I have found that the stronger my understanding becomes, the weaker the attacks of error grow. Through the understanding of Christian Science I have been healed of frequent heavy catarrhal colds, of constipation, and in a large measure of melancholia, discouragement, resentment, and sensitiveness. With Christian Science help I have had a wisdom tooth pulled without the slightest pain, and without any soreness or stiffness of the gum afterwards.
The knowledge that divine Mind governs and protects man is a source of much peace and confidence to me. I am indeed grateful to God for Mrs. Eddy, who revealed to us the knowledge of the allness of good and the nothingness of evil; for a better understanding of the Bible gained through the study of Christian Science; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for all the church services; for the Reading Rooms, the literature, class instruction; and for the loving, patient practitioners and friends who have helped me so far on my journey through the wilderness towards the promised land.
