Heralds of Christ

THE progress of the Christian Scientist is greatly aided if he continually keeps uppermost in his thought the divine purpose of the Christian Science movement. That purpose is to accomplish the full deliverance of mankind from the material sense of life by bringing to the consciousness of men the reality of spiritual being. That this involves a vast amount of work is as certain as the fact that the work must be done; "for the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it?" The Christian Science movement will never have fully discharged its obligation to Deity until all men, of all races, have come to know God, and material sense is forever hushed.

With this great goal before us, it behooves Christian Scientists, as soldiers in this righteous war with all materiality, to take stock of the equipment which divine wisdom has provided. We have the inspired thought of past ages preserved for our use in the Holy Bible. We have the revelation of God to this age set forth by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her other works. We have a divinely ordained plan of church organization to protect and give forth this Word of Truth. Under the sheltering wing of The Mother Church are many varied modes of divine Mind's activity, all moving under divine impulsion to accomplish divine Love's merciful purpose. One of the chief of these Christly activities is our periodical literature. Through the Christian Science periodicals we come into immediate touch with our fellows, the world over, and are aided in our journey by the free interchange of Love's blessings, which are appearing in the conscious experience of our brothers everywhere. The Christian Science Quarterly also blesses us with wisely chosen Lesson-Sermons from the Bible and our textbook.

The student of Christian Science knows that there is but one God, and but one revelator of God's Word to this age, our Leader. He knows that practically coincident with the revelation of Christian Science came the revelation of God's orderly plan for disseminating His revelation among men. In this wisely ordered plan, the printed word occupies a place of major importance. Through our printed books and publications the good seed is sown in the fields of consciousness throughout the world. The discovery of the process for making paper and the invention of printing have increased many fold the human facilities for spreading abroad the Christ, Truth. The spoken word was practically the only mode of presentation available to Christ Jesus and the early Christians.
