The following statement is made by Mary Baker Eddy on page 269 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul." Christian Science therefore does not deny the existence of things, but establishes the right sense of them. It does not deny the existence of man, but establishes his immortality. Mortal mind cannot possibly originate in the immortal Mind, God; it is synonymous with evil—a lie and the father of it. Paul speaks of it as the carnal mind; and shows it to be entirely opposed to the divine Mind or Spirit, which is Life and at peace. Error is a kingdom divided against itself, and is self-destructive; per contra, Truth reveals the kingdom of God and is self-sustained. The understanding of Truth must ever increase; hence the growth of Christian Science, the only activity of which is the activity of Truth, which frees from sin and death.
