About six years ago while in a store I slipped and fell on a concrete floor, striking on my hip. It was with great difficulty and extreme pain that I was helped to my feet, taken to the rest room, and placed on a lounge. I then asked that a Christian Science practitioner be called; and very soon one was with me who immediately began audibly, as well as silently, to declare the truth for me. In about an hour she said to me, "Now we must find a way to get you home;" but the fear was so great in my thought that I was reluctant, saying I could not be moved. The practitioner worked on a few moments longer to allay the extreme fear. Then I was told that I could safely rely on God in all conditions and under all circumstances, and that whatever was best could be done with no harm to myself. I was placed in a chair and carried to an automobile. I suffered to some extent while on my way home, a distance of two miles.
To all appearances there was a fracture of a bone; and on the third day a physician made an examination, the practitioner being present at the time. The result was that it was pronounced to be an intracapsular fracture. The physician said if we were not satisfied with his diag nosis we were at liberty to call some one else, but that undoubtedly another would suggest a plaster cast, and that at my age (I am past seventy) the chances were I would not be here long under such treatment. He said also that under existing conditions Christian Science could do more for me than materia medica, and that he would advise continuing with this treatment. On leaving, he said he would watch the case, as he feared pneumonia.
This was immediately denied, as were all material laws, by knowing that the only lawgiver is divine Principle and all action is controlled by God. For does not the Bible say, "In him we live, and move, and have our being"? From that time on I improved. During the day I would stay on the lounge, and with assistance would be placed in a chair and drawn to the bed at night. After the first week I was taken to the dining room and had my meals with the family; and at this time I could rest my foot on the floor to some extent.
