It is now twenty-three years since I first heard of Christian Science
It is now twenty-three years since I first heard of Christian Science. During that time it has been my supreme interest, and has done everything for me. Our whole family has relied solely on its teachings and practice for physical, financial, intellectual, moral, and spiritual support. My five children during these years have never had a doctor or taken a drop of medicine; and their illnesses have always been quickly cured by the understanding of what is true and what is false, according to the rule given in "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 9, 10): "By knowing the unreality of disease, sin, and death, you demonstrate the allness of God."
Before we came into Christian Science the children suffered terribly every winter from fever and bronchitis, and we had one of the most renowned doctors in Paris to attend them. The treatment was most drastic at that time (it is always changing); and it was agony to their old nurse and to me to apply it and make the little things suffer so. Four years after we came into Christian Science I awoke one winter morning to find our youngest child, then just one year old, stricken with the same illness. He was so ill that he could not be put down; and my husband or I held him in our arms all day. We both firmly refused to believe the sense-testimony, and held on to the truth of being for him. After eighteen hours he suddenly breathed freely, and the fever and bronchitis left him. I laid him down by my side, and we both slept peacefully through the night. He coughed a little; but in a week there was no vestige of a cough left. Before we knew of Christian Science, the danger, fever, and bronchitis had with the other children lasted always two weeks, generally three, and the cough went on for months; indeed until we had taken them to the seaside in June.
Christian Science has relieved me of the perpetual anxiety
