In August, 1917, I turned to Christian Science, not knowing anything about it, but thinking it could not hurt me. I had been ill for about eight years, suffering from stomach disorder, constipation, heart trouble, and a large growth in my right side. From early childhood I had spells of gastric colic that seemed almost to take my life at times. I had seven kinds of medicine to be taken regularly. The doctor finally decided my only chance for life was an operation; but he told my relatives that on account of a bad heart I probably should not live through the ordeal. I decided to try Christian Science first, and asked a friend to make an appointment for me with a practitioner. With her loving and patient help I was healed. At times I would be discouraged, but never wanted to give up; and I was always given loving help and encouragement; so that during the two years before my healing was complete, I learned much of God and Christian Science.
During those years of illness I had spent about half of my time going back and forth to western Texas, taking my seven medicines each time. My first trip after I turned to Science was about two miles in a car, and I would be eight miles from a telegraph station. When I expressed my fear in going without these material means of help, the practitioner said, "Take the Bible and Science and Health, and you won't need any medicine."
I am so thankful that I was led to Christian Science; and so grateful to the practitioners who have helped and shown me the way, as well as to Mrs. Eddy for the many ways she arranged for our help.
