Seven years ago I first heard of Christian Science through...
Seven years ago I first heard of Christian Science through a friend. From the time I was fifteen years old I was ruptured, and suffered greatly at times. I wore several kinds of trusses, but they were of no use. For four years previous to hearing of Christian Science I never knew what it was to be healthy and strong. I was under the doctors' care most of the time, but got no lasting help. At the age of twenty-seven I was not able to leave my bed. We sent thirty-five miles for a doctor who was supposed to be the best in the country. After he had examined me, he told my mother that I had consumption and an abscess on the stomach. He said if I lived thirty days it was all we could expect, and that he could really do me no good.
It was at this time a friend and neighbor asked us to try Christian Science. I consented to do so, and we got a Scientist to come and stay with us for a week. Although he was not a practitioner, he sowed the good seed; but I did not know it at the time; for at the end of the week I told him I did not think Christian Science would do me any good. Accompanied by my mother, I then went to the coast. Arriving in a very weak condition, I saw another physician, but he told me the same old story. He said he could do nothing for me, but gave me a lot of medicine. The next morning I decided to take up Christian Science in earnest; so I went to see a practitioner. He talked to me for a while of things I did not seem to understand; but in a few days, when I did understand to some extent, I found I was healed. Oh, the change I felt! If I could only find words to express the gratitude I feel for Christian Science, and for the blessings which God has bestowed upon me; and to Mary Baker Eddy, the messenger of Truth to this age!—William Silver-Thorne, Shell Brook, Saskatchewan, Canada.
I gladly testify to the truth of the statement of my husband, although his healing took place a few months previous to our marriage. Until his healing I knew nothing of Christian Science; but this was so beautiful I too wanted to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to learn something of its teaching. While reading this blessed truth I suddenly found I was healed of weak eyes and headache, which had been a great trouble to me since childhood. I had been wearing glasses a year and a half, and was going to have them exchanged for stronger ones; but the healing has been permanent. My eyes have been strong ever since. I had a few treatments from a practitioner for internal injuries which had been received in an automobile accident, and which the doctors could not cure. These also were cured.
