About fifteen years ago my wife was prostrated upon a bed of sickness. The family doctor was called in, and diagnosed the case as appendicitis and peritonitis. After nearly a month of experimental treatment, the patient was no better. The doctor admitted that all the material remedies he had prescribed had failed to produce the hoped-for results; and in his judgement the only remedy left would be an operation. We had thus reached a point where "man's extremity" had become "God's opportunity;" and my wife then expressed a desire to try Christian Science. A practitioner was called, and found the patient receptive to the truth; and six treatments in Christian Science made her "every whit whole" again. Since then her only physician has been divine Love and Truth.
It was this beautiful demonstration of the healing power of divine Love and Truth that led me to this fountain of living water. I was healed of a confusing and unsatisfactory theology that I had tried in vain from the days of my youth to make the anchor of my hope. I commenced to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and as I continued to study this inspired volume of golden gems of truth, the stone was rolled away from my mental sepulcher of gloom, fear, worry, and doubt. There came into my consciousness a peace and harmony and newborn hope that had been total strangers in my experience when I had formerly been active in Sunday school and church work. While I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, later I was healed of a severe attack of rheumatism, while attending my first Christian Science lecture. I was so interested in the words of truth as they fell from the lips of the lecturer, that the rheumatic pains vanished; and I left the lecture hall entirely healed. Recently I was cured of the dengue fever in three treatments.
I am devoutly grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, our revered Leader, who out of her great love and affection for suffering humanity has blazoned the way for salvation, revealing the truth that makes men free.
