[Written for the Sentinel]

Lead Thy Captivity Captive

Not in the paths of human peace
Doth Love proclaim the captive free;
Nor where exultant crowds increase
Hath Christ his hidden embassy.
Oh, when the many speak of might,
Kneel thou to Love; hunger and thirst for right.

Thine eyes shall see the legions led
By Michael to thine inward war;
Thine heart shall know that sin is fled,
As Gabriel doth peace restore.
Until the breaking of the day,
Michael shall fight and Gabriel ever pray.

Christian, thou art alone with God,
And other gods thou shalt not serve;
True Scientist, thy Leader trod
The path from which thou mayst not swerve.
Thy brother's face as God's then see,
And captive lead thine own captivity.
