In a recent issue the States quotes from a sermon delivered by a Roman Catholic priest on the subject of "Heaven." The speaker referred to the various denominations and to what they teach with respect to heaven, and among them referred to Christian Scientists.

Now, I think your readers are entitled to know just what Christian Science does teach about heaven, and I would like to quote Mrs. Eddy on the subject. On page 291 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she says, "Heaven is not a locality, but a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal, because sin is not there and man is found having no righteousness of his own, but in possession of 'the mind of the Lord,' as the Scripture says."

When the Pharisees demanded of Jesus to know when the kingdom of God should come, he replied, "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, Lo there! for behold, the kingdom of God is within you." And at another time he said, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." All of this goes to show that heaven is a divine state of consciousness gained through pure mentality.

The idea of heaven as a far-away place possible of attainment only in the dim and distant future does not appeal to a large number of thinking people, but Christian Science is bringing to light the old idea of heaven as taught by the Master, and through its teachings many are discovering that it is possible to experience heaven here and now through the destruction of sin and disease and the various ills that beset mortal existence.
