The Lectures
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (First Church).—Dr. Walton Hubbard, lecturer; introduced by Rev. G. Martin, who said in part:—
The preaching of Jesus was a declaration of the truth about God, and his healing was a demonstration of this truth. It was thus by means of preaching and healing that the Master proved his Messiahship. And in his example we have the only right method in doing the work of God. For three centuries the early church followed in the footsteps of the Way-shower, and healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, and raised the dead, as Gibbon, the historian, bears out.
Owing to the spread of materialistic beliefs, the healing became divorced from the preaching, and soon got into the hands of officialism, the divine unity of thought and deed was destroyed, and things have drifted until they are as we see them to-day. But they are not to remain so. There is the promise of a better and more glorious future. Truth is again being restored by declaration and demonstration. The second coming of the Christ, Truth, is at hand, and this renewed presence and power of divine activity is to be found in Christian Science.
