Righteous Judgment

The strong statement made by Christ Jesus, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," brings joy to every student of Christian Science. This joy is the right activity of Mind. Really to know is to understand. On page 505 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "Understanding is the line of demarcation between the real and unreal." Christian Science practice makes this separation between the true and the false; but to detect that which is false we must first know that which is true. This detection of the false does not try to attach the wrong merely to a personality. Through the application of our understanding of the Principle of Christian Science we are enabled to see the wrong as a false sense about that which is true. This judgment blesses a man and never injures him.

Mrs. Eddy clearly states in Science and Health and her other writings the basic truth that we start with to prove the falsity of any claim of mortality. On page 151, for instance, she says, "All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal." Over and over she reiterates this truth in various words. The clearness with which this truth unfolds to us displaces any false belief with the divine idea.

Since God is All, the idea of God infinitely expressed is the truth about anything. Now every claim of error proves positively the presence of the truth, because the error is a false statement about that which is correct. Our work in Christian Science is not to strive to find out what so-called material sense is claiming but to know what God and His idea is, to understand His law and what His judgment about man is. As we work to prove that Mind and its idea is all there is, we find that the divine idea is all the man there is. God's man is never condemned by God, and cannot do what Mind has not done. Error is all that is condemned, the error of believing a falsity about God and His creation. What is usually looked upon as judgment is merely that which is accepted from sense testimony; whereas the only righteous judgment is knowing man as the son of God, capable of expressing infinite good. He cannot truly conceive of anything beyond infinity, since the infinite God is his only Mind. The true man, rightly judged and rightly judging, neither stands nor falls on account of mortal opinion. He cannot be prevented from expressing right activity nor can he be interfered with in expressing such activity by any suppositional opposite called a mind apart from God.
