[Written for the Sentinel]

The Words of My Mouth

Let not mine own unguarded word
In thoughtless haste go forth
To judge another's word or deed,
Its vanity or worth;
But rather let me silent be
In patient, calm duress,
And set a seal upon my lips
Until my thought can bless.

If Truth demand, and I may not
Withhold rebuke of sin,
Let no self-righteousness nor pride,
No trembling enter in.
Imbue me then with courage meek
And wisdom from above:
Let Thine own word go forth and heal,
As thought reflects Thy Love.
