I am so very grateful to God that I must give thanks

I am so very grateful to God that I must give thanks. Fifteen years ago I was very ill with rheumatism, but at that time God's help seemed very far away, as in my youth I had learned that He lives in heaven and only looks down upon the earth, here and there. I had to be in the hospital and take medicines and pay a great deal of money, but did not get any help. I thought God wanted to punish me. People advised me to go to Colorado for the climate, which I did, and thought it did me good, but one day unexpectedly I could not get out of bed. The rheumatism was worse than ever. I tried hot baths, also electrical massage, but the pain grew until I lay helpless. My wife, who had tried Christian Science long ago, asked me then why I did not ask God to help me, but I doubted; however, when the pain was at its worst God's help was nearest. She got a practitioner, and to my astonishment in a short time I was rid of the evil. I began to go to church and my eyes were opened. I learned to know God, not a material God who punishes but a God who is Spirit, who only gives good things and helps us get rid of evil.

I also want to tell how my little boy was healed of a terrible burn, which he got when a tub of boiling water was spilled over his body and one leg. He lay helpless, but we at once called a practitioner and knew God's all-power. Nothing is impossible with God, and His help was shown again. The boy was healed in three months. He is now very well and goes to a Christian Science Sunday school, where he has already learned much.

I am extremely grateful that I have found God. It is a wonderful work that Mrs. Eddy did, to bring Christ Jesus' teachings to mankind again. — John W. Press, Denver, Colo.
