Among the Churches

Current Notes

Holland.—Attacks on Christian Science in the press have been less numerous again this year than last; in general the articles to which replies were written, aside from some misunderstandings of this teaching, showed a growing recognition of the good it is bringing to humanity. Corrections were sent to seven papers or periodicals, and even where some of them were not published, proof was more than once furnished that they at least had a good effect on the editors or the writers of the attacks. In the weekly paper Eenheid translations from the Christian Science periodicals have again been regularly published this year.

After a lapse of some years in which, owing to the situation created by the world war, it was not possible to have a lecture, this autumn we had the privilege of having a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship with us. A translation of the entire text of his lecture was published in Eenheid, while the principal papers in The Hague and Amsterdam printed longer or shorter reports. At the end of the lecture in both towns extra copies of this weekly, containing no other matter than the translation, were handed to and greatly appreciated by the numerous visitors.

The directors of the International School of Philosophy at Amersfoort informed me of their intention to arrange in the summer of 1920 a congress on "The Oneness of Humanity." They asked me to become a member of the committee for preparation, in order to help them to devise a way to have Christian Science also represented at the congress. I corresponded about this matter with the Board of Directors in Boston, who in the end left the decision about participation to the Christian Science church and societies in Holland, all of which expressed their desire to have Christian Science represented at the congress. At a meeting of the committee for preparation, held at Amersfoort, this matter was amply considered. It is hoped and trusted that participation will result in a rich blessing to all.
