The Dispatch

The coroner's physician in Chicago furnishes a happy change in the view often presented in the case of those who die under Christian Science treatment and official inquiries follow. And a physician of the homeopathic school said a word of praise which is so different from the usual routine that it is noticeable.

A man well known in Chicago business circles died after a few days of illness. He was under the care of a Christian Scientist, and had steadfastly refused the services of any other. He grew worse with the passing of each day, but his confidence did not waver. When death came, a homeopathic physician was asked to issue a certificate of death causes, but declined, and reported to the coroner. The official autopsy which supplied the surprise was next in order.

The coroner's physician who performed the post mortem found a pathological situation which amazed him, and which brought from the homeopath who was present the professional absolution for the Christian Science treatment. The coroner's physician declared that, in the light of the condition revealed by the examination, no treatment would have availed to save the patient's life, and no blame therefore could be attached to the "irregular" Christian Science. At most it had worked no harm.
