Bartlesville (Okla.) Enterprise
A clergyman in his sermon as reported attacks Christian Science, classing it with Mohammedanism and Spiritualism, to which it has no analogy. He also says it is unchristian. Christian Science is founded upon the Bible, and is doing the works that the Founder of Christianity commended. The first tenet of Christian Science is, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497).
Christian Science is Christian because it insists on following the commandments and teachings of Christ Jesus. By practice as well as precept it is imitating him, for it heals the sick, reforms the sinner, and comforts the sorrowing. Its teachings emphasize the necessity of being pure in thought, word, and deed. Instead of Christian Science attracting the gross by its impurity, it is its purity and simplicity that is attracting the sinning, the sick, and the downtrodden. It gives the beauty of health physically and spiritually, and the harmony of life and love for the husks of sensualism and depravity. It is the straight and loving way founded on the life, teachings, and demonstrations of Christ Jesus. Nothing that is unclean or that "maketh a lie" can enter it. All who will may come and partake of "the water of life" that flows freely for all through the understanding of the divine will.
Students of Christian Science are seeking to do the will of God, and are showing it in love for all mankind, thus keeping the commandments. The proof of its influence is seen in the character and life of its adherents.
