About fifteen years ago I was afflicted with rheumatism,...
About fifteen years ago I was afflicted with rheumatism, which came on suddenly and in a severe form. Several of the best physicians in New Orleans treated me, but as no permanent benefit was received, my husband sent me to Hot Springs, Ark., where I was treated by two of the best specialists, and took the mineral baths. I was also kept on a most rigid diet for months. I went there for three years in succession, as the doctors told me this was the only treatment which would ever benefit me, but finally became greatly discouraged, since there was no improvement in my condition. When finishing the last course of treatment I asked the doctor if he thought I could ever be cured by continuing to go back there for treatment. He said to me, "Madam, you will never be cured, and if you live to be an old woman you will most likely be a helpless invalid, as the chalk deposits in your joints will continue to accumulate till finally you will be unable to use your limbs."
I did not however give up hope; intuitively I felt that I would be healed in some way. After my return home a friend advised me to try Christian Science, and I decided to do so. Treatment was begun at once and I was wonderfully benefited in a short time. The complete healing was slow, but I felt assured that God's promises were true and would be made manifest if I was faithful. This has proved to be so, for not only has the rheumatism been overcome, but many other ills in myself and in members of my family.
One case deserving of mention was a nervous breakdown from which my eldest daughter suffered while in the midst of her school examinations. For several months she was treated by the family physician in accordance with her father's wish, but as her condition did not improve I asked for treatment in Christian Science, and she was restored to health in a very short time. Instead of the sick, nervous child that she was, today she is a perfectly healthy young woman.
