A clergyman is reported to have said at a meeting in Whiteinch Baptist Church that "they had suffered a great deal of vexation of soul" from Christian Science, and that people had gone over to Christian Science "simply because they did not know their Bible." We are certain that the reverend gentleman would not have spoken in this way of Christian Science if he had been rightly informed about its teachings.

The whole endeavor of Christian Science is to regenerate the human consciousness by replacing the evil beliefs of the "carnal mind," which St. Paul said "is enmity against God," with the spiritual understanding of good. And this endeavor is made possible by the light which Christian Science throws on the nature of God and of spiritual man, God's image and likeness. On page 465 of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy refers to God thus: "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love." Every deduction which Christian Science draws from these synonyms for God is perfectly logical and in entire accord with the Bible. There is not a single Christian Scientist but will acknowledge with the deepest gratitude that Christian Science has illumined the Bible in a manner that previously he had thought impossible, making it to him the most interesting and the most spiritually helpful book in the world.
