From Our Exchanges

[Northwestern Christian Advocate]

Why this war? Not because men denied Christ to the individual heart, but because they refused him a voice in the councils of nations and rejected his offer of social reconcilation. But the truth remains: when nations agree to recognize the claims of Christ in the larger social and national units, then will faith in Christ and his power to save be supreme. We may as well face the fact that many today are questioning Christ's sufficiency just here. A Christ, they say, that cannot permeate the social order and make regnant the law of love in the realm of politics and industry, falls short of the supreme demand. Such reason correctly. And it is with the largest optimism we observe the rapidly increasing recognition accorded this fact by the church itself, and the readiness with which denominational councils are accepting the newer program.
