A short time after beginning to read Christian Science...

A short time after beginning to read Christian Science literature I had some demonstrations over headache, sore throat, and colds, for myself and our children, and was healed by studying the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. In my father's family there was what was considered hereditary lung trouble, and it was such a great blessing to be free from the fear of inheriting it that my tongue cannot tell or my pen write a description of this new found joy. I knew I had something that money could not buy or any one argue me out of.

We started to read the Lesson-Sermons in 1903, and my husband and I and our elder son joined The Mother Church. Our elder daughter was healed of deafness, and when twelve years old had a beautiful demonstration of her own over a snake bite. She had gone to the field to take some water to her father, and when pulling a lily out of a sheaf of grain a snake stung her arm. A blister formed, but she declared that "God is Love," and that His "creatures" are "harmless, useful" (Science and Health, p. 514), for she had learned this in Sunday school, then hastened to her father to tell the experience, saying, "The little snake did not mean to harm me, did it, papa?" At this time there was an angry patch on her arm the size of one's palm. Her father told her to come to me right away, but when I looked at the arm the redness was gone and only a white spot like a mosquito bite was left as evidence.

In 1905 we had the privilege of class instruction by one of Mrs. Eddy's faithful students. I thank God, who has led us "beside the still waters," and who sent Mrs. Eddy to prepare "a table in the wilderness" to make known to us the Christ, Truth, the bread which "cometh down from heaven."
