Christian Science Messengers
On page 149 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" by Mrs. Eddy, we read: "More than regal is the majesty of the meekness of the Christ-principle; and its might is the ever-flowing tides of truth that sweep the universe, create and govern it; and its radiant stores of knowledge are the mysteries of exhaustless being. Seek ye these till you make their treasures yours."
We are indeed a happy people to have flowing into our homes and thoughts every week-day through The Christian Science Monitor a current of good concerning the whole of mortal thought. Although originating from the pure source of divine inspiration, to mortal sense it sometimes seems an interloper, making demands on time that one wishes for amusement or to lessen burdensome cares; but let us once realize its mission and its originator's concept and command regarding it, and one loses a sense of self and gazes with St. John upon a new universe. The debris of mortal sense upon the shores of time is swept away, and countless vessels of pure thought, treasures of the ever present beauty and the joy of art, literature, and music, of sports and so on, are borne in on the peaceful waves to refresh the dulled mortal consciousness. Christian Science is not a cult to be sheltered in a cloistered sanctuary, but it fills the world and directs its activities while correcting its misconceptions.
The Monitor brings the only real news the world receives, for it is based on spiritual sense. The manifestations of Mind, of the one intelligence, are its true editor and staff, and in order to have the paper attain the perfection which is its rightful status and which Christian Scientists desire, we must clearly see the truth about that statement, which is, that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation" (Science and Health, p. 468). Is it not the worst of errors, then, to permit thoughts of any kind to rob us of our rightful nourishment from that heaven sent source? How many unopened packages lie on our tables weekly? How many who enjoy the sociability of the distributing committee, distribute the contents of the paper daily within their own mentalities?
