It is a privilege and a duty to give my testimony, and I...
It is a privilege and a duty to give my testimony, and I hope that it may benefit some one. The first thirteen and a half years of my married life I was in very ill health, suffering from one ailment or another day and night. Three physicians tried to help me, and a minor operation was performed, but there was little improvement in my condition. By that time I had lost all faith in medicine and doctors. The last doctor said that I never would be strong again, but would be better in two years if I was careful about doing heavy work; but in two years I was getting back into the same state of health as before.
During those two years I had prayed that God would either direct me how to be healed or give me an understanding that would bring about the healing, and had come to the conclusion that God alone could heal me. At that time it came to met to try Christian Science; so I asked for treatment and was healed. In one week I felt like a different woman. That was in 1900. I was run down generally and had a complication of diseases,—spinal headaches, weak eyes, stomach trouble, and ulceration. I took four weeks' treatment in Christian Science, and have been a strong, well woman ever since, able to do some very hard work with pleasure.
The first year I came into Science I lived in a small town, and then for five or six years in the country, where I could not see a Scientist very often; but I made a close study of the Bible and Science and Health, and thus laid a firm foundation, so that a number of good demonstrations were made. I have been able to demonstrate over blood poisoning, dislocation of the knee, dislocation of the spinal cord, toothache, and other ailments. I am very grateful for the physical healing, but much more so for the spiritual uplift, which is more than all else to me. It has changed all my views of life, so that life is now worth living. The only way I can express my sincere gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy is in good deeds and in helping others.
