With a heart overflowing with gratitude for the benefits...
With a heart overflowing with gratitude for the benefits received through Christian Science by gaining an understanding of our loving God and of man's relation to Him, I give this testimony. I had heard of Christian Science for fifteen years, but objected to its teaching, the word Science being to me, in my ignorance, the stumbling-block.
A few years ago I heard for the first time a lecture on Christian Science, and it impressed me so much that it set me thinking. About that time I became very sick with a bad cold, also chills and fever. To please my wife, who had become acquainted with some Christian Science people and had gained some understanding of its teaching, I consented to call a practitioner. The good man came in the middle of the night and gave me a treatment. After an hour I fell asleep and slept till daylight, when I got up feeling perfectly well and with no sign of fever. At the same time I was healed of chronic bowel trouble, after suffering from it for thirty years.
The healing for which I am most thankful, however, is that of intense pain in the lower part of the back. I had suffered from this for forty-eight years, having three or four attacks each year and being incapable of moving about from two to three weeks each time; but I have been completely cured in Christian Science. Many minor ailments have been overcome with the help of that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The Sentinel and Journal have been a great help to me in gaining an understanding of God as Life, Truth, and Love, and of man created in His image and likeness. The greatest blessing of all has been the overcoming of a seemingly uncontrollable temper, which often made life a burden to my family and self.
