There is a wide difference between what is called suggestion,...

The Dunfermline (Scotland) Press

There is a wide difference between what is called suggestion, which proceeds from the action of the human mind, and the practice of Christian Science, which emanates from the ceaseless activity of the divine Mind, the only cause, called God. The effects of suggestion on the individual only prolong one's bondage to all manner of troubles; but the effects of Christian Science healing are to save and deliver men from every form of ill, including pain. The teaching of Christian Science shows that the human or mortal mind is the producer of pain, and that inflammation of the body is invariably caused by fear; whereas the power of the divine Mind, whenever properly applied and understood in Christian Science, removes pain and enables people to prevent the development of pain in their bodies; moreover, when fear disappears the consequent inflammation is bound to subside. St. John says in his epistle: "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear;" also, that "God is love."

In answer to the statement that one must not expect Christian Science to mend a broken leg, let us turn to page 402 of Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy has written these words: "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon, but surgery is the branch of its healing which will be last acknowledged. However, it is but just to say that the author has already in her possession well-authenticated records of the cure, by herself and her students through mental surgery alone, of broken bones, dislocated joints, and spinal vertebrae."
