In thanksgiving to God, and in gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for...
In thanksgiving to God, and in gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her unselfish labors in demonstrating and establishing the Science which she discovered, I gladly testify to the healing and saving power of Christian Science. My home was in Australia for ten years, and during that time I was a great sufferer from abdominal complaints, indeed was a semiinvalid. Various remedies and methods for regaining health and strength were given a steady and faithful trial, but without avail. After being under the care of a specialist for a year I was told that my only recourse was to an operation, which would probably bring release from the terrible headaches that prostrated me every week or two and left me in an extremely weak condition. My husband feared I was not strong enough to recover from the shock of an operation and would not consent to it.
At this stage of discouragement I lost all faith in medicine and began to experiment with various diet "cures." There was considerable improvement at first, but the benefit was not lasting, and when business called my husband to Sydney, New South Wales, my health began to fail rapidly, and for the first time I gave up hope and thought there was little use in trying any longer to live. No doctor had attended me for two years and I dreaded to have one, fearing he would advise an operation; but my condition was so serious it was decided that I must have medical attendance. The physician declared an operation to be imperative, and advised me to go to the United States or to England to have it performed. After these years of faithful following of the different schools of medicine and diets, to experience no relief and finally to be told I must cross the ocean to undergo an operation, was indeed discouraging. It was not possible for my husband to accompany me, and I began the sad preparations for breaking up my home.
Just then Christian Science was brought to my notice. Without faith, but eager to try anything which might bring relief, I arose from a three days' prostrating attack of pain to visit a Christian Science practitioner. Surely God is an ever-present help in trouble, for since that day I have been a different woman. The perfect healing was accomplished in four days, although I continued to take treatment for three weeks, not realizing that the healing was already complete. The dark clouds of sickness were dissipated, and for seven years I have not taken a drop of medicine or used any material remedies, neither have I thought of my food except to be thankful for it and enjoy it.
