This testimony is given in the hope that it may encourage...
This testimony is given in the hope that it may encourage some one who is looking for work. After completing a four year course in high school I started out to look for my first position on the basis of offering my service for the good of God's children. Having always wanted to work for an architect, I went first to the office of one who was a Christian Scientist, but he was out and his draughtsman told me there was no opening. That afternoon fifteen architects were interviewed, but all said there was no hope of my finding anything in the architectural line. I was not discouraged, however, but knew there would be work for me in God's vineyard. Then I applied to various banks and was promised a position in one of them; but before the final arrangements were made it was necessary for me to undergo a physical examination in order to be admitted to their pension system. I did not like the idea of being a bank messenger after saying that I was going to be an architectural draughtsman, but all false pride left as these words came to my thought: "To do good in God's vineyard is your greatest desire, so where you can do most good there you want to be."
On Monday morning I called at the doctor's office, and after undergoing a thorough examination was pronounced sound and strong. The doctor especially remarked on my good eyesight, and I thanked God that we learn in Christian Science that we see through spiritual sense, not material, as some years ago I had worn glasses. It had also been said that I had heart trouble. After this I called again at the office of the architect who was a Christian Scientist, for I had not yet seen him personally, this time taking some of my drawings with me, and was given a position. From there I went to the bank to say that it would not be possible for me to accept the kind offer that had been made me. This was indeed another victory of Spirit over matter.
I am deeply grateful for my understanding of God as taught by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health. The Christian Science literature is a blessing for all seekers of Truth. I am thankful for the scientific thought governing our happy home. For the last three years Christian Science has been our only remedy, and in these days of seeming worry and unrest the spiritual uplift and the peace we experience by relying upon God are most gratifying. Otto V. Ueberroth, Chicago, III.
