Union City (Ind.) Times

In a sermon as reported in the Times such harsh terms were used as "delusion," "dishonor," "of the devil," and a number of others of like nature, to denounce those who disagree with this clergyman's opinion that "the miraculous presence and power of the Holy Spirit were peculiar to the apostolic age and to the church in the beginning." So far as his statements concern Christian Science, which was included in his denunciation, we fail to find anything in the Scriptures to warrant such a conclusion. On the contrary, authentic history of Christianity for the first three centuries and the history of Christian Science for the last half-century indicate that the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, as divine Love, may be demonstrated here and now through the understanding of spiritual law.

Christian Science is proving that Christ Jesus was referring to his followers for all time when he said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." This proof is to be found in the healing of all manner of sickness, the reformation of the sinner and the slave of false appetite, in the destruction of lack and misery of every kind, and in purer living on the part of those who have come under the beneficent influence of this wonderful truth about God and man. In other words, Christian Science is proving that the kingdom of heaven is at hand, and that we can partake of it only as we understand the spiritual teachings of the Scriptures as set forth in the works of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and as we strive to follow the instruction of Christ Jesus, "If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."
