While I have always tried to love God and trust Him, I did...
While I have always tried to love God and trust Him, I did not seem to know how to do so until I came into Christian Science and learned the truth about God and His creation, that He is ever present and can supply all our human needs. I had been frail from childhood, and for a number of years a semiinvalid. I had doctored, and tired nearly everything, including change of climate, beside undergoing several operations. While I was better at times, I was never well until I took up Christian Science, to which I turned as a last resort, not knowing what this teaching was until I began to read the literature.
The healing came through reading and without the aid of a practitioner. My eyes were in such a condition when I began that I could read only part of a page at a time, and although glasses were used, I had not been able to do even coarse mending. In two or three weeks I was able to read several hours a day without glasses. My general health began to improve from the first, and gradually I grew stronger, until now I am in robust health. We have a little boy a year old, our first child. According to materia medica this experience was impossible to me.
While I am grateful for the physical healing, I think I am more so for the spiritual betterment. I used to be always worrying, but now I am learning that God lovingly governs all; that we do not have to be sick or lack anything we need. All that is necessary for us is to learn the truth about God, and live it the best we can. I am thankful to God, and grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for all these blessings, as well as to older students in Christian Science who encouraged and helped me when I was sometimes discouraged. I am also grateful for the Christian Science literature, from which I receive so much good. It is my desire so to grow in grace as to be worthy of the name Christian Scientist, and to help others to know the truth.—Mary F. Brechtbill, Grants Pass, Ore.
