The Lectures

An audience of fully six hundred people in the Town Hall listened attentively to the lecture on Christian Science by Jacob S. Shield. In introducing the lecturer John J. Flinn spoke in part as follows : —

Whether you are disposed to agree with us wholly or partly or not at all, so far as our religious tenets or practices are concerned, you have, I think, known us long enough and well enough to believe that what we are striving for is the making of healthier, more wholesome, better and therefore happier men, women, and children. In a period of the world's history such as we are passing through at present, — or in any period, — this striving is surely worthy the recognition of all right thinking people. The religion we profess, the faith we hold, and the understanding we have gained of the Principle discovered, defined, explained, and made practicable by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, have impressed themselves upon the mentality of our times and have entered, I am satisfied, either directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously, into the personal experience of every one of you, for there is now hardly a considerable group in this or in any other civilized country in which the healing efficacy of Christian Science has not been demonstrated.—The Winchester Star.
