Recently a special number, Christian Science extra, The Bible Students Monthly, has been scattered broadcast in a number of American cities, including Brooklyn. One of the items in this Monthly was printed originally as a letter in the Scranton (Pa.) Times of April 26, 1906. In October, 1906, it was reprinted in the Old Theology Quarterly; later it was reprinted in the People's Pulpit, and subsequently in The Bible Students Monthly. In this manner certain persons have kept this article in circulation for about ten years, and have by its terms continually accused Mrs. Eddy of teaching that she is God. The letter in question contains other misrepresentations, but this one is the most important and the most offensive.

From time to time Christian Scientists spoke of this letter to the person who wrote it and to other persons responsible for keeping it in circulation. For example, the Christian Science committee on publication for New York wrote to one of them about it in August, 1914. In reply, this official received the following letter from the Rev. C. T. Russell, dated Aug. 26, 1914, and mailed at Butte, Mont. : —

"Yours of the 12th inst. raches me here in the far West. As you may surmise, I am not giving much personal attention to The Bible Students Monthly, although I have a general supervision of it. I am sorry if it at any time contained anything that could be construed as unkind or personal, or anything doctrinal that was untrue or unfair. Be assured, while we believe that only the people's doctrines are proper subjects for public criticism, we always wish to be gentle, kind, just, truthful. I have suggested that some early number of The B. S. M. take opportunity for an expression of this kind."
