Twenty-two years ago I first heard of Christian Science, and it found me when I most needed it. We were then living in Topeka, Kan., and I was healed of an internal growth through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I had been operated on once and was getting ready for the second operation when I heard of this teaching, and it came about in this way: After the birth of my second child, one of the physicians who had helped to perform the operation was with me at the time of the birth, and he told me that as soon as possible after confinement I must undergo another operation. I told this to a lady who was a near neighbor, and she assured me I did not need to submit to it; but I did not then see how I could get rid of the disease without the knife.

Thanks to our heavenly Father, the giver of all good, and to Mrs. Eddy, who lived so close to the Father that this blessed truth was revealed to her, I was healed. I can truthfully say that neither my husband, our two youngest daughters, nor myself, has ever resorted to medicine in the twenty-two years we have known about Christian Science, and only on three occasions have I had to ask help of a Christian Science practitioner in those years. Truth has always been a present help in times of trouble.
