One afternoon during a recent epidemic of eye trouble in...
One afternoon during a recent epidemic of eye trouble in this city, one of my eyes began to be inflamed, and by evening it was manifesting such distressing and painful symptoms that I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, not forgetting, however, that there was work for me also to do. The next morning the condition seemed so much worse that I was advised not to go to the office that day. I went, however, as usual, but wore a pair of dark glasses to make my appearance less alarming. Although it was difficult and at times painful to do so, I continued to use my eyes all day for the almost constant reading and writing that my duties demanded, and I did not neglect to improve a half hour's opportunity to study Science and Health,—feeling all the time the conviction that divine Truth was my deliverer and would heal me. The eyes continued to improve throughout the day, and in another twenty-four hours almost every trace of the affliction had disappeared. Except for the dark glasses worn for appearance's sake no material remedy of any kind was used. I thank God for the quick healing, and feel confident that had I looked to any other source I should not have gotten along so well. While this is the most recent, it is by no means the only one of my deliverances through Christian Science. It has healed me of rupture (supposed to be hereditary), also of varicose veins in the throat; the desire to smoke has been overcome, and the truth has been my deliverer from many other troubles as they have arisen.
I am thankful for Mrs. Eddy's book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I understood very little of it when I first began to read it, but in the years since then I have found more and more in it, until now it is my daily companion. It has led me back to the Bible (previously little read and little appreciated), and has shown me that the Bible is in truth the inspired word of God. Both books now mean more to me than I can here set down, and for them and the many blessings that come to me from their study I feel very grateful.
