[Written for the Sentinel.]

OMNIPOTENCE

Thou mayest not, perchance, a mount remove,Or change the crystal water into wine,—The dead restore, or heal through power divineThe multitude that seek this power to prove:Yet think ye not such marvelous works behooveA favored mortal or predestined line;Nor, scoffing, give no credence till a signThy faith awaken and thy doubt reprove.

Thine eyes, by Science taught, may Truth discern,And scorn each claim of matter; not thy mightShall triumph, but thy heart, a-humbled, learnThe mighty power of Mind that in thy sightShall error's towering mountain overturn,And chase the blinding darkness with its light.
