AMONG THE CHURCHES

Ground is being broken today [March 27] on the southeast corner of Bailey street and Washington avenue for the site of a handsome church building which, when completed, will cost fully five thousand dollars unfurnished. The structure is being erected by First Church of Christ, Scientist, and will be one of the most attractive of its kind in the city. The building is to be of classical style of architecture and will cover the entire lot, which is ninety by one hundred feet. The structure will face both Central park and Washington avenue, and will have a corner entrance at the intersection of street and avenue. It is expected that the new church will be ready for occupancy within ninety days. The first floor, which will practically be a basement, will be one large Sunday school room. The second or ground floor will contain the main auditorium, with a seating capacity of five hundred, offices, and a reading-room. The seats in the auditorium will be set in a semicircle and everything will be strictly modern and up to date.—Whittier News.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, has purchased a valuable lot of land with a frontage on 5th street of eighty-seven and one fourth feet and on Indiana of one hundred and twenty-five feet. The site is conveniently located and will make an ideal place for a house of worship, and as it is clear of debt it is understood on good authority that a new church edifice is to be erected in the near future.
