In a recent issue there appeared a signed article which raises the question as to whether Christian Science and Judaism are one and the same thing. I do not understand that any Christian Scientist claims that the tenets and rules, the regulations, customs, etc., of the Christian Science church are identical with those of the Jewish people, but I have understood and believe that the salient points of the Jewish religion are maintained in the teaching of Christian Science; that is to say, Christian Science teaches that there is but one God and that men are to be saved from sin and suffering by understanding the true God and deporting themselves accordingly. I understand that Jesus was an adherent of the fundamental teaching of the Jewish religion, that he was a believer and an expounder of the Mosaic law, although he probably discerned and taught some things concerning the law which may not have been understood by the people of that time, not even by his countrymen.

Our critic declares that a "Jew to be a Christian Scientist has to 'in writing forswear all allegiance to Judaism,' " that " 'in writing he has to promise never to attend a Jewish service, and in writing has to guarantee that he will never support the Jewish cause.' " I cannot imagine where the gentleman obtained this impression. No one who joins the Christian Science church is expected to guarantee in writing or otherwise that he will never support the Jewish cause or any other righteous cause. As a matter of course, the Christian Science church does not accept as members those who are members of other denominations. It holds simply that one should not undertake to be a member of two distinctive religious bodies.
