It is with a deep sense of gratitude and thankfulness...

It is with a deep sense of gratitude and thankfulness that I testify to the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. For eight years I was a sufferer, scarcely seeing a well day. In February, 1907, I took to my bed with lung trouble, a doctor saying that one lung was gone and the other nearly so. In the latter part of April the physician told me he could do no more for me; he advised me to make the best of my life, as I might live three weeks, and possibly not that long. In the eight years of my suffering I had had four different physicians, each one telling me that I had tubercular disease. At last a friend came to see me and advised me to try Christian Science. I had heard something of this teaching two years before, through a very dear friend who told me something of its results, but I had not then given up my faith in medicine.

I had, however, always been a firm believer in the Bible, and I wanted much to live, so finding at last that all material remedies were of no avail, I asked for the Bible, opened it at the book of Matthew, and read about Jesus healing so many sick ones. I realized that the Christ-spirit had never left the earth, and saw no reason why I, too, should not be healed. This was on Friday. When my husband came home he said he had been talking with a Christian Scientist, who told him that after I had gotten tired of material remedies, I ought to try Christian Science. I coughed all that night and had a bad hemorrhage, and the next day I felt that something must be done. At five o'clock my husband sent for a practitioner, who came to me with love and truth, earnestly saying, "God is your life." Realizing this truth as never before, I was awakened into newness of life. She treated me one hour, and while she was so engaged I read through the chapter on Prayer in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I was healed with the one treatment. She treated me absently on Sunday, and I went to her home on Monday, according to appointment, and had another treatment; but the healing was done in that first treatment.

During the three years since then I have been greatly blessed, and have had some beautiful demonstrations. I have gained greatly in weight, and the sense of discord which was formerly in our home has been destroyed. I am thankful indeed for the healing I have received, and I now know that what I most needed was to understand more about God. I am truly thankful to God, and grateful to our dear Leader for this truth which passes all understanding. I am also thankful for all the good literature that she has labored so earnestly to put forth, that all mankind might be benefited thereby.
