AMONG THE CHURCHES

MONTCLAIR, N. J.

Tomorrow morning [March 12] at eleven o'clock First Church of Christ, Scientist, will hold the first service in its own edifice, having acquired by purchase the property of the First Baptist church on South Fullerton avenue, near Bloomfield avenue. Almost immediately after the Baptists took possession of their new building early in February, the Christian Scientists began the renovation of their newly acquired church, and have in many respects altered the interior appearance of same by a change of color scheme and the addition of new furnishings.

The Christian Science movement was first established in upper Montclair about 1898, when meetings were held in private houses. In 1899 it was deemed advisable to hold the meetings in Montclair, because of its central location, and in 1900 Arcanum Hall was rented. The church was organized in October, 1901, with a membership of seven, and duly incorporated, Oct. 13, 1902; since which time it has had a steady growth in its membership and influence for good.—Montclair Times.

BIRMINGHAM, ALA.

Yesterday [March 13] at sunset the corner-stone for the new First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Birmingham, was laid with simple ceremony. Present were the Readers and officers of the church, the building committee, and two charter members, and they placed in position the copper box containing copies of the Bible, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and of all of the other publications of the Christian Science church.

The new structure will be located at the corner of Eleventh avenue, south, and Twenty-first street, where the church owns a very desirable lot one hundred and twenty-five feet by one hundred and fifty-seven feet in one of the choicest residence sections of the city. The design will be colonial. It will cost when completed between seven and eight thousand dollars, and is considered only a temporary structure to meet the present needs of the congregation.

MIAMI, OKLA.

The Christian Scientists of Miami have recently bought property on the corner of Second and Olive streets, with the intention of building a church home in the near future. The interest manifested in Christian Science during the past year has been greater than at any time since the church has been organized. They are at present using the Latter Day Saints church on Oak street.
