About nine years ago, when living in Wisconsin, I was asked to give a little reading at a social gathering, and chose for the entertainment of my friends an article by a well-known humorist, which had recently appeared in a magazine. How those present laughed and clapped their hands as I read the statements concerning Christian Science practitioners! Since then I have been only too glad to welcome into my home one of these practitioners, and have gladly taken a long journey to see one in her office.

It was when I was suffering from a stomach disorder, living on a very restricted diet, and taking medicine before and after meals, also at bedtime, that I first tried Science treatment, and in a few weeks was able to eat all kinds of food. The doctors said I had also an incurable disease of the kidneys which had come from a former illness, but this too was healed in Christian Science. In the spring of 1909, while in San Francisco on my way home, I was taken violently ill and had all the painful symptoms of acute lung trouble. I was at a hotel, and sent my son to enquire at the office for the Christian Science reading-rooms. The clerk kindly asked if I wanted Christian Science help, and in a few minutes a practitioner was reached by telephone. I was soon asleep, and a few hours later the practitioner came to see me. Although I then seemed to be a very sick woman, I was able next morning to start on my long journey back to Illinois. I spent that day in gratitude to God, knowing that if I had relied upon material remedies, as I had on a previous occasion before coming into Science, I would have spent weeks in the hospital with the customary heavy expense.

I have also learned that God governs all our plans for good. I have had a son who had been estranged, restored to his home and affection for me through Science. This truth has proved a great help to me in financial affairs. I used to wonder how people could talk so much about Mrs. Eddy, and now I think there is no Hall of Fame too great for her name to occupy an honored place therein. I send this with love and gratitude for all the help received.
