THE LECTURES

The semiannual lecture on Christian Science was given Thursday night [Nov. 2] at The First Church of Christ, Scientist by Willis F. Gross of the Christian Science board of lectureship. John C. Lathrop, first reader of the church, in introducing the lecturer spoke as follows:—

The Mother Church welcomes this additional opportunity when it can give to the public, through the means of a lecture, a clearer sense of the great truth of Christian Science.

Agassiz, the celebrated naturalist, said: "Every great scientific truth goes through three stages. First, people say it conflicts with the Bible. Next, they say it has been discovered before. Lastly, they say they have always believed it." This has been the experience of Christian Science, and it is interesting to note that many thousands of good people feel they are at this final stage, for, so naturally and inevitably have its great truths unfolded to them; so many vital and lasting benefits have they mentally and physically received through its ministrations; so absolutely convinced are they that its divine Principle and divine rules are demonstrably true and infallible, that they are certain its law and order are the law and order of God, and it seems to them now as though they must have "always believed it."
