It is with a grateful heart that I think of the wonderful...
It is with a grateful heart that I think of the wonderful help which Christian Science has brought me. Since early childhood I had suffered from ill health, and conditions became almost unbearable as I grew up. I consulted several physicians, whose opinions differed very greatly, and I was treated according to the diagnosis of each. I then held a position as a saleswoman, and as I was not benefited by all the medicine I was taking, the examining physician sent me to a convalescent home, whence I returned home feeling that I was able to resume my position; but there was no lasting improvement, and the old troubles returned with renewed force. To the former ailments difficulty in breathing was added, and my condition grew such that I thought I would have to give up my position.
Then something wonderful occurred! The lady who was the head of the firm told me that she had been healed through Christian Science of a disease considered incurable by materia medica. I listened to all this as to a fairy tale, and could hardly believe that I too might be healed, but the address of a Christian Science practitioner being given me, I went to see her and asked for treatment. This was early in December, 1909, but as I intended to go back to Breslau three or four weeks later, in order to take a permanent position as an office clerk, the treatment was postponed. The practitioner handed me a few copies of Dar Herold der Christian Science, saying there was no reason why I should not recover my health through reading this literature; so I began to read it diligently, and experienced a change which was noticeable to all who had been aware of my former condition. The prediction of the practitioner came true, for when I went to see her again I was well.
Through the recognition of the healing and liberating truth, as presented to us by our revered Leader, I have become a new woman mentally and physically, and when thinking of her untiring and consecrated work for humanity I feel that I can give no adequate expression to my gratitude. With the growing apprehension of the immortal truths which she has given to humanity, my desire increases to live in accordance with her teachings, that I may do my share in order to have them realized—that the kingdom of God may be established on earth.
