"ALL'S WELL"

The good old custom, which still obtains in some places, of a watchman patroling the streets at night, calling out the hours as they pass, and adding the comforting assurance that "All's well," has, I think, a special signification to Christian Scientists. From the very outset of my study of the text-book of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, even before I knew how to pray in the better way, when I felt like repeating the petition of the disciples, "Lord, teach us to pray," even then this study gave me comfort and an assurance that "all's well."

If one is loyal to the teachings of Christian Science—to the Bible and the text-book, the Manual, and the other writings of our Leader—all is well, no matter what temptation confronts us. The Bible is full of passages which give the promise of protection. This is graphically illustrated in the chorus from Mendelssohn's well-known "Elijah": "He, watching over Israel, slumbers not nor sleeps." In the Sentinel of March 31, 1906, Mrs. Eddy says, "Christian Scientists are fishers of men. The Bible is our sea-beaten Rock ... It stands the storm. It engages the attention and enriches the being of all men." As one assimilates these precious truths, he can bring to others the "all's well" of its teachings.
