Christian Science is the religion and practice of Jesus...
San Juan Democrat
Christian Science is the religion and practice of Jesus made applicable and serviceable to modern life. Christian Science is based on the Bible and the Bible alone. In doctrine and precept, in preaching and practice, it follows the Biblical precedent. It teaches, as does the Bible, that God is Spirit and man spiritual, and that therefore only through spiritual understanding can man know God aright, or gain true peace and harmony. Through the spiritual understanding gained by the study of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the sincere student heals the sick, reforms the wicked and sinful, and because of the new light shed on the Scriptures the Bible promises glow with new beauty and deeper meaning. It is safe to say that no other religious movement since the time of Christ Jesus has stirred in so short a time such vast numbers of people to turn to God as has Christian Science.
Historical evidence is conclusive that not only did Jesus and his disciples heal the sick by the power of prayer, but that for three hundred years after the ascension the healing of sickness by prayer was a prominent feature of the early church. When creed, dogma, and pride of temporal power crept into the church, the vital healing gospel which Jesus gave to the world was lost. This darkened condition of men's thoughts continued for long centuries, lighted only occasionally by isolated cases of healing, until Mrs. Eddy gave to the world the scientific statement of Christianity in Science and Health, showing that the Bible is based on a clearly demonstrable Principle, and that healing the sick, raising the dead, destroying sin are not miraculous events contravening divine law, but in strict conformity to that law, and as clearly demonstrable when spiritually understood as is a problem in mathematics. In proving that the real universe is spiritual, perfect, and immortal, "an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens," Christian Science has also made it clear that sin, sickness, poverty, discord, death, and all the myriad other forms of evil, are not a part of the true spiritual universe, the universe of God, and that therefore in destroying them the Christian Scientist is not only following the example of Jesus and his disciples, but also working in conformity to the divine will.
Christian Science interprets law, the basic law of the universe, and when the splendor of Mrs. Eddy's unfoldment of the nature of God and His creation is made apparent to the individual, he never flounders among conflicting isms and theories. He never mistakes the false for the true. He knows, and moreover he proves that he knows, by demonstrating the power of God to heal the sick, destroy disease and the ills of humanity, and give man permanent and satisfying peace.
