I am very grateful for the opportunity afforded me when a child to attend the Christian Science Sunday school for about four years. During that time I was twice brought out of severe illness through the healing power of Christian Science. I also had many proofs of its efficacy in case of accidents and minor sicknesses. At the age of nine years, having been left without father or mother, I went to live with relatives who were very much opposed to what they thought Christian Science to be, so that for several years I did not hear it mentioned. Although I remembered the physical benefits I had received through its help, I failed to make use of its teachings; but I now know that the seed sown in my thought at that early day was the cause of my constant longing for something higher and better than I had found.
At the age of fourteen I joined a church, but was not contented there. As I grew older I became more discontented, and wandered around to the various churches, to see if I might find one whose followers seemed to be happier or better for having that religion. But I found none until I returned to Christian Science, and it proved to be the religion I needed. To me it is everything,—the present help to which I turn for every need. I have had many proofs of its healing power, and I have also been able to overcome a bad temper which would manifest itself at times; but my greatest troubles were discontent and worry over past experiences. It had seemed that fate was against me, and although I always tried to do right, everything seemed to turn out wrong. I was both unhappy and discouraged with life, and would have welcomed an end.
I am now glad to say that I have been able to bury the past. I trust the future to God, and live just for today in His loving care. I find that trials prove to be blessings, and "all things work together for good." I have learned that Christian Science never fails us, no matter what the need may be, if we live up to its teachings and apply them.
