In studying a Lesson on "Love" I was forcibly reminded of how much I owe to Christian Science, and I wish to express something of the gratitude which fills me to overflowing—gratitude to God, the divine Principle, Love; also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose teaching is showing me how to love. I love her for her grand and noble life, her unselfish works in behalf of a heartsick humanity, and for her wonderful writings, especially "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," because it has unlocked the Bible, which heretofore had been a closed book to me.

For twenty years I was without hope and "without God in the world," searching for Truth in many creeds, doctrines, and theories, leading a loveless life, yet always hungering to love and be loved. When Christian Science was presented to me thirteen years ago, I turned from it as simply another religion,—prejudiced without investigation. During the seven following years our little boy and I were much in need of physical healing, but materia medica was our sole dependence. Later, however, I realized most gratefully how much help we had received from the beneficent influence of Christian Science in many a severe illness of the child, through the loving thoughts of members of my family. Through continual unhappiness and ill health I was finally driven to seek refuge in the arms of divine Love, and I found in these lines: "Spirit's senses are without pain, and they are forever at peace" (Science and Health, p. 214), my first glimpse of the truth. In consequence of this I also found healing from an eye trouble which was causing me much discomfort just then. Who can ever forget the joy that comes with the understanding of God as Love. Other ills, such as rheumatism, stomach and bladder trouble, were each in turn quickly overcome through the power of Truth, as well as many minor ailments both for myself and son, and more recently a severe attack of bowel trouble, also an affection of the eyes.

I can truly count my blessings in physical, mental, and moral healing, yet the greatest is the assurance that God is Love, which helps me to be a better wife to a most patient and kind husband, as well as a better mother; to overcome impatience, self-will, and many other sins; to know that there is no law but the law of Love, God's law. While the road at times seems rugged, much help comes to us from the study of the Lesson-Sermons and our splendid literature, and I am encouraged to go on trying to prove myself worthy of the blessings of Christian Science, so that I may help others even as I am helped.
